The operation was part of a well-organized smuggling syndicate, with the passengers identified as part of operations spanning Mumbai and Dubai. The seizure of the valuable items included 5. 7 kilograms of Gold paste hidden in the passengers' waistbands and a large collection of high-ending iPhones. This interception took place on Friday night and was a result of a meticulous operation carried out by the anti-smuggling agency.
The Accused and the Precious Haul
The passengers who were intercepted by the DRI have been identified as Irfan (30) from Uttar Pradesh, Kamran Ahmad (38) from Mumbai, and Mohammad Irfan Ghulam (37) from Gujarat. Their apprehension at the North Goa airport was a result of suspicion, and upon thorough examination, the DRI officials made a remarkable discovery.
The diligent efforts of the DRI officers led to the recovery of a considerable amount of assets. Specifically, they seized 5.7 kilograms of gold in the form of paste and an impressive collection of 28 high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max devices. The investigation revealed that the accused passengers were part of a well-organized smuggling syndicate with operations spanning between Mumbai and Dubai. They had traveled to Abu Dhabi from Mumbai on October 12 and subsequently returned to India with these concealed goods. The iPhones were concealed within packets placed in checked-in baggage, while the gold paste was hidden within the waistbands of two of the passengers.
